About

Hey There, I’m Jessica Morgan

Licensed cosmetologist, curly hair survivor, and the woman behind every word you read on HerLocks.

Jessica Morgan — founder and author of HerLocks
That’s me — probably thinking about hair right now.

The Short Version

I’ve spent the last 8+ years behind the chair, behind the screen, and honestly — behind way too many Pinterest boards at 2 AM. I’m a licensed cosmetologist based in the U.S., and I started HerLocks because I got tired of seeing the same recycled hair advice that never actually worked on real hair.

You know the kind. “Just scrunch and go!” Sure, Karen. That works great if you have naturally perfect waves and zero humidity.

I wanted to build something different. Something that gives you real methods, honest opinions, and styles you can actually recreate at home without a professional standing behind you.

How This Whole Thing Started

I got my cosmetology license when I was 22. Worked in salons in different cities, did bridal hair on weekends, and spent every spare hour experimenting with techniques that most YouTube tutorials skip over. The stuff that actually matters — like why your French twist keeps falling apart after 20 minutes, or why your balayage looks muddy instead of sun-kissed.

In 2024, I finally sat down and launched HerLocks. Not as some big master plan, but because my friends kept texting me hair questions at all hours and I thought — why not just put all of this in one place?

Turns out, a lot of women were looking for the same thing.

What You’ll Find on HerLocks

I write about everything from quick everyday styles to wedding-day updos — and I try to cover every hair type, length, texture, and age group because hair doesn’t come in one size fits all. Here’s what I focus on:

Hairstyle Guides by Length & Type

Whether you’re rocking a pixie cut, growing out a lob, or dealing with fine hair that won’t hold a curl — I’ve got step-by-step methods that actually work. I test everything myself before it goes on this site.

Hair Coloring & Trends

From balayage to bold fashion colors, I break down what to ask your colorist, what to expect, and how to maintain your color so you’re not back in the salon every three weeks.

Seasonal & Occasion Styles

Wedding guest hair in 90-degree heat? Holiday updos that survive the family photo? Prom styles that don’t require three cans of hairspray? I’ve been there, done that, and written the guide.

Honest Haircare Tips

No sponsored fluff. When I recommend a technique or routine, it’s because I’ve actually used it. I’ll always tell you what works, what’s overhyped, and what’s a waste of your money.

My Approach to Content

Every article on HerLocks is written by me. I research, I test, I photograph, and I write. I don’t publish anything I haven’t personally tried or worked with in a real-life setting. If something doesn’t deliver results, it doesn’t make it onto this site — simple as that.

I also believe hair content should be inclusive. That’s why you’ll find guides for natural curls, African-American protective styles, Asian hair textures, Hispanic hair types, and styles for women of every age — from teens figuring out their first real hairstyle to women over 60 who want something fresh and modern.

Hair is personal. The advice should be, too.

Why Readers Trust HerLocks

I don’t write from a desk pretending to know what works. I write from 8+ years of hands-on experience as a licensed cosmetologist who has styled hundreds of women with completely different hair types, face shapes, and lifestyles. When I say a technique holds up all day, it’s because I’ve watched it hold up all day — at weddings, proms, office days, and everything in between.

HerLocks has grown into a community of women who come here for real answers. No clickbait. No generic lists pulled from stock photo galleries. Just honest, tested, practical hair advice from someone who actually does this for a living.
